Samsung-Learning Partnership Survey
May. 22, 2015

Last Fall, we sent along a memo to parents concerning a survey that we asked to have completed. The survey was related to a partnership we are in with Samsung Canada and The Learning Partnership through Canada's Outstanding Principals Program.

Our involvement in this partnership resulted in our receiving $20 000 worth of Samsung Chromebooks and Tablets for our school. One of the expectations for us in this partnership, is that we ask parents to provide feedback to these organizations on the use of technology with our students.

Once again, we are asking for parent support in clicking on the link below to provide feedback on a post-technology survey. We want to thank you, in advance, for your support with this initiative.

Tuesday of this week was recognized as Giving Tuesday, a day that celebrates and encourages activities that support charities and non-profits. All of the students and staff here at Baccalieu want to give a huge shout out to Scott Morgan of Morgan's Furniture in Bay Roberts for donating a deep freeze to our Kids Eat Smart Program in recognition of Giving Tuesday.

We would also like to extend a huge thanks to Nickie Shanks and the Kids Eat Smart Foundation who were impressed and pleased with Mr. Morgan's donation and decided to match it with a financial contribution equal to the value of the deep freeze.

Zachary LeShane Lays Vimy Pilgrimage Foundation Wreath at Remembrance Day Ceremony

Nov. 12, 2014

This past summer, Zachary LeShane was awarded a trip to France in recognition of the Vimy Pilgrimage Award he received for outstanding youth leadership and service. There were 21 Award recipients across the country with 2 coming from our province (Zachary and a student from Mount Pearl).

Last week, the Vimy Pilgrimage Foundation contacted the 21 Award recipients from across Canada, and informed them that they would be receiving a wreath from the Vimy Foundation to lay at this year's Remembrance Day ceremony in their town/city.

Zachary was in attendance with his Cadet Corp (RCSCC 295 Baccalieu) at the Remembrance Day ceremony held at Old Perlican on Tuesday, November 11th. Below is a picture of Zachary at the monument where he laid the wreath on behalf of the Vimy Foundation. Congratulations Zachary on your award and on your laying of the wreath on Tuesday.

Parent Survey - Samsung Canada

Oct 23, 2014

In late September, we sent home a memo regarding a survey that we have been asked to complete for Samsung Canada and The Learning Partnership dealing with technology in our school.

This survey is now available for parents to complete online. The survey can be accessed by clicking on the link below. We would really appreciate your support with this initiative and ask that you please take some time before the October 31st deadline to get this done.

to Dawn Oliver for her rendition of "O Canada" on the flute and to the members of our choir who performed the "Ode to Newfoundland".

Also, a special thank you goes out to all of the individuals, organizations and businesses who contributed to our scholarship fund again this year. Please know how much the entire educational community here at Baccalieu Collegiate appreciates your support for our school and our students.

Samsung Surveys!

Sept. 23, 2014

As a result of a partnership with Samsung Canada and The Learning Partnership through the Canada's Outstanding Principals Program, our school has received $20,000 worth of technology in the form of 45 Samsung Chromebooks and 20 Samsung Tablets. One of the expectations of our participation in this partnership is that our students, parents, and teachers complete a survey on our views on how technology is being used to support teaching and learning in the classroom.

We are being asked to complete two online surveys, one by October 30th and another by June 30th. Each survey will take about 15 min. to complete. Given the investment these people have made to support technology in our school, we would really appreciate everyone's help in providing feedback through these surveys.

Today, we are sending home a consent form for parents/guardians to sign giving permission for students to complete these surveys. This is the first stage of this process. We are asking parents/guardians to sign these consent forms and to have them returned to school as soon as is conveniently possible so we can move forward with this initiative.

Thanks, in advance, for everyone's help with this project!

Awards Night

Sept. 23, 2014

Our Annual Awards Night has been scheduled for Friday, October 17th. Students, parents, and especially our last year's graduates, are asked to pencil the date on your calendar and to come along to help recognize and celebrate our student's academic accomplishments.

Sept. 23, 2014

We are in the process of getting our extracurricular program up and running for the current school year. Our X-Country runners have been training over the past couple of weeks and our volleyball tryouts have begun for some of our teams. Our choir will be meeting on Wednesday afternoons (beginning tomorrow) and our Drama Club will be meeting on Mondays when they get going this fall.

We have a Youth Advisory Group that have formed in partnership with our school liaison to the RCMP (Constable John Clarke) and they are currently surveying students and staff to get direction for their group's work for this year. We hav
e also put the call out for nominations to our Student Council in preparation for our upcoming election.

Students are encouraged to find something you enjoy doing and get involved!
